A Portuguese Red Enjoyable with a Hearty Beef Stew

Teresa did one of her own recipes – a Beef Stew with Mushrooms, Red Wine, Herbs, Tomatoes and Beef Stock that we fine tuned with some Worcester Sauce and Tomato Puree.  We opened a bottle of Giesta Dao 2009, a Portuguese red from the Sunday Times Wine Club.  We last tasted this with steak (see 14th October 2011).  This full-bodied red is a blend of Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), Jaen and Touriga Nacional and we found that the pairing brought out smooth creamy, vanilla flavours and a red fruit sweetness in the wine.  An enjoyable match.
