Chilean & Spanish Reds Go Great with Lamb Kleftiko

We visited friends and took a bottle of Gran Tarapaca Syrah Reservado 2007 from Sunday Times Wine Club to pair with the Lamb Kleftiko our hostess was serving.   This spicy, Rhône-like red was rich and full of deep flavours and it complemented the Kleftiko very well.   Our hosts invited me to choose a further wine from their rack to enjoy with the meal and I selected a bottle of Vega Real Ribera del Duero 2009 also from Sunday Times Wine Club.  This Spanish red is a Tempranillo-based blend with berry flavours and subtle oak.  It also was a good match with the Kleftiko.
