We actually had a traditional Sunday lunch for a change. Roast Lamb with all the trimmings, although we usually pass on the mint sauce because it kills the flavour of dry wines completely. We tried a bottle of Don Elias Gran Reserva 2000 a Catalunyan red from the Sunday Times Wine Club. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Garnacha, matured in oak for three years before bottling. This was a lovely full flavoured wine. It was soft, with some spiciness in the plum and blackcurrant fruit. Definitely on a par with a decent Rioja and we thought just as good with Roast Lamb.
